Hexidine® Scrub: A clean, dark red solution free from visible evidence of contamination with a characteristic odour. It contains: Chlorhexidine Gluconate 4%w/v equivalent to 20% v/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate Solution BP.
Chlorhexidine is a bisbiguanide antiseptic and disinfectant which is bactericidal or bacteriostatic against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It exerts its lethal effects upon bacterial cells through non-specific interaction with acidic phospholipids of the cell membranes . Such interaction alters the permeability of the cell membranes towards small inorganic materials such as potassium and towards cytosolic constituents such as aminoacids and nucleotides. The functioning of membrane-associated enzymes such as the dehydrogenases and ATPase is indirectly affected through such membrane action.
Chlorhexidine is poorly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract and skin.
Hexidine® Scrub is effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive vegetative bacteria, yeasts, dermatophytic fungi and lipophilic viruses.
